Volvo EX60 Unveiled: A Long-Range Electric SUV for the Next Generation

Volvo has globally unveiled the EX60, a new all-electric midsize SUV that marks an important milestone in the brand’s transition toward full electrification. Designed to appeal to both first-time EV buyers and experienced electric vehicle users, the EX60 focuses on long driving range, advanced electric architecture, and Volvo’s core emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Platform & Powertrain

The Volvo EX60 is the first model built on Volvo’s new SPA3 electric-only platform, which integrates the battery directly into the vehicle structure. This design helps improve energy efficiency, optimise weight distribution, and enhance overall driving dynamics.

Volvo will offer the EX60 in multiple powertrain configurations, including:

  • Rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants focused on efficiency

  • All-wheel drive (AWD) variants aimed at higher performance and traction

This flexible setup allows buyers to choose between range-oriented or performance-focused driving characteristics

Range & Efficiency

One of the key highlights of the Volvo EX60 is its WLTP-certified driving range of up to 810 km on a single charge, making it the longest-range electric vehicle announced by Volvo to date.

For new EV users, this extended range helps reduce charging anxiety, while experienced EV owners benefit from improved efficiency and longer real-world usability for both city and highway driving.

Charging & Usability

The EX60 supports ultra-fast DC charging, enabling the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes under optimal conditions. This significantly improves long-distance travel convenience and brings the EV ownership experience closer to traditional refuelling timelines.

Standard AC charging support will also allow for convenient overnight home charging.

Technology & Safety Focus

Built on Volvo’s latest electric platform, the EX60 integrates advanced vehicle software, next-generation driver assistance systems, and enhanced structural safety. The SPA3 platform is designed to support future updates and evolving safety technologies, reinforcing Volvo’s long-standing focus on occupant protection.

Positioning & Market Context

With its combination of long driving range, flexible powertrain options, fast-charging capability, and a modern electric platform, the Volvo EX60 positions itself as a practical and future-ready electric SUV. It is aimed at a broad audience, ranging from EV newcomers to seasoned electric vehicle users looking for efficiency, comfort, and advanced technology in a midsize SUV format
